History

It all began with a small timber building and a modest pond sitting unobtrusively along the A4.  The current site of The Berkshire Gardener once began as retail outlet for shrubs and plants with a ‘pick-your-own’ fruit field to the rear.

In 1976 the site was established as the Ladds Garden Village supplying the local population with all its gardening needs.  Over time the village developed and diversified with the inclusion of specialized, independent retailers from garden furniture suppliers to hot tubs and garden buildings.

In 2020 the Garden Village was taken on by The Granary Group who now plan to redevelop the site into an exceptional, contemporary garden centre – The Berkshire Gardener.  The site will include a café and courtyard, homewares and gift section, food hall and a huge selection of plants, shrubs and gardening accessories.
